April Club Night - Tuesday 13 April, Canada Bay Club - Guest Speaker Spencer Martin

Once the official business has been set aside, we will have a guest Speaker, Spencer Martin.

Spencer came to prominence in his 'Boomerang Service Station' Holden 48-215, catching the eye of Scuderia Veloce's David McKay. Soon he was racing SV's Brabham Climax and the fabulous Ferrari LM250. From there he moved to Bob Jane's Shell team winning the 1966 and 1967 Australian Drivers (Gold Star) Championship before retiring from frontline racing at the age of 28.

Spencer's second 'career' started in the 1980's racing the ex-SV Ferrari LM250 at the Monterey Classic. Spencer raced Ferrari, Maserati, Jaguar and Alfa Romeo sportscars for collector Kerry Manolis in Europe and America with great success. He finished a fantastic second in the ex-Mildren Brabham Alfa Romeo in his last ever race at the inaugural Tasman Revival in 2006.

Spencer's frontline career was brief, a mere seven years, but was there ever such a natural talent, a driver who made racing look so effortless? Join us to hear Spencer talk about his new book: Historic Ferrari and Grand Prix Cars - My Life by Spencer Martin. Copies of the book, autographed by Spencer, will be available on the night.

Location

This meeting will be held at the Canada Bay Club, William St, Canada Bay
